 Born and educated in Australia, she attended the National School of Art in Canberra, where she taught photography as a Fine Art medium before leaving for Egypt in 1982. In 1995, she obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Art Therapy from the Edinburgh University Settlement School of Art Therapy. As well as being an exhibiting artist, she is also a writer and divides her time between the two activities. She became an Italian citizen in 1981. Since 1982, she has lived and worked in Italy, Egypt, Brazil, Yugoslavia and Scotland collaborating and frequently exhibiting with artists in these and other countries. She has exhibited in numerous solo shows and over one hundred group shows since 1980 in Europe, Australia, South America and the United States. With a number of books to her credit, Ryan has successfully curated a number of exhibitions for “Art in the Garden” which she initiated in 2002.
